Officers with the NEU (Narcotics Enforcement Unit) say they observed suspicious activity in a vehicle parked at a business parking lot in the Town of Putnam Valley, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office announced on Friday, Sept. 13.

Police approached the vehicle and allegedly observed the occupants snorting a substance with a straw.

Further investigation revealed that the three occupants, identified as Mohammed Abdelhamid, 24, Nicole Eng, 24 and Fady Basta, 28, all of Manhattan, were in possession of cocaine, police say.

Abdelhamid and Eng were arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.

Basta, who police say was also found to be in possession of marijuana, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Abdelhamid and Eng were ticketed and released after posting $100 bail. Basta was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail/$2,000 bail bond.

The three suspects are scheduled to appear in court.
